Asheville Christian Academy History Time Line

1958 Asheville Christian Day School Begins: Founded by Christians involved with Ben Lippen School. Met at First Alliance Church. Four students met with teacher Wilma Anderson.
1959 Moved to a private home for two years.
1961 Moved to Temple Baptist Church. First Administrator: Miss Lemardred Brushwood, 1961-66.
1963 New facility completed on Vivian Avenue in Asheville.
1966 Headmaster Kenneth Carroll hired, 1966-67.

The school split.

1967 Asheville Christian Day School (ACDS). Mr. Art Lynn was Headmaster.
1968 Mrs. Lula Shields, Administrator, 1968-69.
1969 Mr. Daniel Moore, Headmaster, 1969-72.
1972 ACDS and BRCA Merge. The school is renamed ACA.
1967 Blue Ridge Christian Academy (BRCA). Headmaster, Kenneth Carroll.
1968 BRCA moves to Bell Rd. Dr. Paul Cullery, Headmaster.
1970 Mr. Don Rulison, Assistant Admin. 1970-71.
1971 Mr. Bob Livingston, Headmaster, 1971-72.

The school rejoined.

1972 Mr. Donald Rulison, Headmaster, 1972-74.
1974 Roundette built. Mr. Gordon Brown, Headmaster, 1974-77.
1975 Full K-12 program in operation.
1976 ACA's first graduating class.
1977 Gymnasium added. Mr. Walter Jackson, Headmaster, 1977-79.
1979 Mr. Laurence Taylor, Headmaster, 1979-84.
1981 High school closes: agreement made with Ben Lippen School.
1984 Dr. Gordon Brown, Headmaster, 1984-89.
1988 High school re-opens. Miss Carolyn Anderson, High School Principal.
1989 First re-opened graduating class: one student graduates. Mr. John Hoey, Headmaster, 1989-91.
1991 New high school building opens in February. Mr. Gordon Meiners, Interim Headmaster, 1991-92.
1992 Mr. William George, Headmaster, 1992 - .
1995 Feasibility study to determine expansion of facilities on current site.
1996 Spring: ACA is fully accredited with ACSI for another 10 years. Long Range Facilities Planning Committee begins search for property in the Asheville area.
1998 Fall: Corporation Members voted 199 to 1 to acquire the Baker property in Swannanoa.
1999 May 24: Closing ceremony for the acquisition of the Baker Farm held on the future site of ACA.
2000 May 20: Groundbreaking ceremony.
2003 First year at the Riverwood campus in Swannanoa.
