ACA Fine Arts

At Asheville Christian Academy, we believe that a balanced education is one that includes creative, imaginative, artistic pursuits.  Therefore, we seek to encourage students to develop a sense of aesthetics born of a biblical world and life view.  That which distinguishes mankind from all other creatures is the image of God in him.  "...in the image of God He created him..."  (Genesis 1:27).  Creativity is one of the most glorious ways in which mankind expresses the divine image that he bears.  Thus, we greatly value and emphasize creativity and imagination in the education of our students.  This God-given creativity is intended to be used for God’s glory and for man’s pleasure.

Visual art and general music classes are an integral part of our Lower School curriculum.  Art work fills the hallways of the West Building on a daily basis.  Musical and artistic growth and productivity build toward the much-anticipated Lower School Fine Arts Festival each May.  See the artwork of our budding young artists at artsonia.com.

Our middle school students in 6th and 7th grades have the privilege of exploring art, band, chorus and drama through our Middle School Fine Arts Exploratory Classes.  One period each day, four days a week, these middle schoolers are given the opportunity to discover and develop the tools necessary to understand and enjoy these varied artistic expressions.  Our 2007-2008 8th graders were given the option of choosing two fine arts electives from the following options: art, drama, music ensemble and musical theatre.

Upper school students can choose from multiple art classes, band, and chorus as well as two theatrical productions per school year--one a play, the other a musical.  Talented and experienced faculty and support staff guide our singers, dancers and actors through the production and performance process.

Because we understand the power of the arts to approve, challenge and encourage men and women, we encourage our student to see performing and/or presenting creative work as an act of ministry.  In addition to a full calendar of arts event on campus, we seek for our upper school musical groups and art students to be active in area performances and art exhibitions.

Fine Arts Faculty:  Maggie Edens (theatre); Vikki Luther (art); Marilyn Brown (music); Rebecca Morgan (drama); Christine Patete (art); Alex Panagiotacos (band, Fine Arts Coordinator); John Fohner (chorus).

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Congratulations to the cast and crew of A Midsummer Night's Dream on an excellent performance.  We have never seen Shakespeare done quite that way!  If you missed the play you can still watch the video trailer created by the cast.
