Upper School

Student Leadership Retreat:

Each August the entire student leadership team including all student government representatives and class officers begin the school year with a camping trip. Students bond as a team and begin to plan for much of the upcoming school year.

Upper School Service Retreat:

This three-day overnight retreat can be local or several hours away. In addition to the typical bonding and spiritual emphasis aspects of a retreat, students spend many of their daytime hours serving the community.

Language/Foreign Trips:

Students have one opportunity each year to travel internationally with a group from ACA. On a rotating basis, our faculty sponsor trips to: England, France, Spain and Italy. These trips are not included in tuition.

Spring Field Day:

At the end of each school year the entire Upper School spends a day playing at Camp Cedarcliff.

Various Other Trips:

Small student groups take periodic field trips and overnight trips throughout the school year.

National Honor Society:

Our local NHS chapter has adopted a road near campus and conducts monthly road clean-up in addition to other periodic service projects.

Annual Blood Drives:

Student Government and NHS partner with the Red Cross twice a year to hold a blood drive on campus.

Middle School Banquet:

Each spring the sophomore class serves the middle school students by planning and serving at the Middle School Banquet.

Junior/Senior Banquet:

Each spring the junior class honors the outgoing seniors by planning and sponsoring this end-of-year banquet.

Various other projects:

Most Bible classes and several other student groups (including each athletic team) sponsor small service projects throughout the school year.

Clans:

Upper school students are divided into four clans: Embercrest, Stoneshaft, Mystenfel and Windercleft. Students remain part of the same clan for their upper school career. Clans compete against each other for various points throughout the school year and at the end of the year the clan with the most points earns a trip to Carowinds amusement park.

Convocation:

Each morning the entire Upper School begins the day together. During this ten-minute "family meeting" we hear announcements, see skits, hear devotions from our student chaplains and once a week Mindy Belz, editor of World Magazine, presents "World View Perspective."

Unique Chapels:

Weekly upper school chapels are planned by a committee including the male and female student chaplains. However, several times a year we step outside of the normal schedule to do something different

  • Spiritual Emphasis Week
  • Small Group Chapels (5-6 times a year)
  • Tenebrae – Good Friday
  • All School Chapels (4-5 times a year)
