2012 Youth Camps
ACA athletic camps are open to all young athletes and are conducted by proven coaches. The ACA athletic camp experience is instructional, competitive, and fun!
Boys Baseball
June 11-14, 9:00 a.m. to noon
Grades 3–8 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $75
Director: Billy Shepherd, ACA Head Varsity Coach
ACA baseball has consistently competed at the championship level, winning many conference championships and a state championship in 2008. Coach Shepherd is in his second year at ACA and has been coaching baseball for 30 years. He was the Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Coach of the Year in 2006. During this camp, players will be “drilled and skilled” on the fundamentals of championship baseball.
Girls Basketball
June 18-21, 9:00 a.m. to noon
Grades 2-5 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $75

Grades 6-8 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $95
Director: Dottie Edwards, ACA Head Varsity Coach
State tournament appearances are a regular part of women’s basketball at ACA, due in part to the work ethic and fundamental instruction of the staff. This camp will provide a variety of experiences for the young player, including skill development, games, and competitions. Coach Edwards was the NCSAA 2007 Coach of the Year. Her teams are known for their defensive tenacity and team play.
Boys Basketball
June 25-28, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Grades 2-6 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $75
Director: Thomas Johnson, ACA Assistant Coach
The ACA basketball program has proven to be a consistent winner, with a state championship and three final four appearances in four years. Each camp session will provide repetitive skill development and fun for the young player. Coach Johnson was an ACA All Conference player and specializes in teaching shooting, footwork, and ball handling. This camp is also an excellent option for the seventh or eighth grade player who has little experience or is a beginner.
Boys and Girls Soccer
July 16-19, 5 :00-8:00 p.m.
Grades 3-8 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $75
Director: Terry Hughes, Head Varsity Coach & Director of Soccer Operations
Soccer at ACA receives leadership from one of WNC’s finest soccer coaches. Both the men and women’s teams are respected for hard work, team play and being fundamentally sound. A 2006 Coach of the Year, Coach Hughes utilizes creative drills and competitions to move young players along in their skill development and love for the game.
Volleyball
July 23-26, 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Grades 3–8 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $75
Director: Torri Render, ACA Head Varsity Coach
ACA volleyball is consistently at the top of WNC high school volleyball. Successive trips to the state finals have produced numerous championship and runner-up titles. This camp is packed with fundamentals, fun, and competition preparation. Coach Render will lead the ACA volleyball staff in breaking down the game and preparing the young volleyball player for championship level play.
Boys and Girls Cross Country
July 23-27, 1:00-6:00 p.m.
Grades 5-12 (2012-13 School Year) Cost: $250
Director: Henry Weaver, ACA Head Varsity Coach
Under the leadership of Coach Henry Weaver, longtime WNC running coach, ACA cross country continues to produce top runners and teams. This camp will feature some of the region’s top coaches and runners and will include technique, lectures, video work, and strategy. Nutrition and body fitness for the runner will also be featured.
